worth training melee even though i cant prot it?

Yes that's true, but at this point in game overheads is so cheap and easy to get back if you DO lost it, so prayer doesn't seem worth it to me in any way.

I would definately get melee stats up. having a high combat makes people run in fear of you! I am also starting to think higher att/str is faster dps than range. Once i have 80 str im unprotecting range for str.

I keep thinking the same thing I need to get melee up soon, I want to get 80 def and it takes so long with long range and I'm only 40 att and str

Melee, I would say, has the best KO potential of all three combat styles. I protect 94 range and 94 mage because they cost/take the longest to train. If I die with my melee stats, its very fast getting them back.

id suggest 94 mage with 90+ range as you wont have to grind two different cb styles on death. melees high dps also makes it better for rebuilding instead of range
