Z U L R A H
Hey guys, hope everyone is having a great day! Disclaimer; This post is NOT runescape related. Intro; Over the past couple months in my spare time, I have been venturing more into the programming/coding/design/and business parts of gaming. I have no professional experience in these fields per-say, such as college/internships etc.. But you have to start somewhere. In these past months I have vastly increased my knowledge of software such as Unity, C# , and photoshop., as well as various plugins for Unity that enable you to make a game you made into allowing multiplayer (mmorpg). About 10 years ago I started playing a sandbox MMO called Ultima Online. Popularly known as the first MMORPG. And as time went on, people veered away from the game because of updates/toxic player base and simply outdated technology. This game, aswell as runescape, made my childhood much more enjoyable. And as time has progressed, so has gaming. There are still a lot of old-style sandbox games out there the reenact Ultima Online, but none satisfy my need. I am contemplating on majorly reducing my Runescape play time and my job to chase a dream that may seem impossible to a bunch of people, but that doesn't stop me from trying to accomplish my goals. The Project; I know a lot of people might think this is a waste of time/money/resources, and you have the right to that opinion. The project i'm wanting to start is pretty much re-creating a game similar to Ultima Online in a lot of ways, but also very customizable in a lot of aspects to fit it into todays generation of gaming. This game is completely started from scratch using Unity 5.3 as the game engine and c# as the coding software. Not all of the game will necessarily be from scratch, such as assets & 3d models(mostly the terrain of the world) because you can simply buy them from the Unity store, and recreate them as you want. Although i would like the GameObjects and GameObject coding to be from scratch so there are no flaws from the get go. What i would like in this game are; Crafting, player owned housing(different from Runescape) , Dungeons, Quests/dailies(as time progresses), PvP , PvE , A very detailed leveling system, custom classes/dual classes , there's so much more I would like to see in this project and it would be much easier to explain to the person/people that would be willing to help, if any. Basically I want an open world MMORPG that brings the nostalgia of Ultima Online back, and it is a farcry I know. What I posses; What I would bring to the project is all of the software/servers needed. I have the resources to get an actual commercial license through Unity, which is very expensive. I would like to host all of the files/models on my own computer and servers/cloud that I own. ( Not going to go into details about the hardware i posses at this time ) I will purchase most/everything that is needed to make this dream into a reality. I'm not looking for people who can code a simple RSPS, This will be a dedicated project of mine. The main thing I can bring to this project is my time & dedication. I have a job right now, and I have been saving money to make this dream turn into a reality for me( And anyone willing to contribute of course) but I have thought long and hard about this decision even though i don't have 30 years of college experience like everyone thinks you need. This project is simply a make or break situation and there are obviously no guarantees. I am not a seasoned professional of these services, but was the president born the president ? I will be dealing with programming/C# implementations into the game. And I will be putting in 10+ hours a day into this. What I need; I am not able to physically do this on my own. What I need is a couple individuals experienced in creating a website/forums , C# coding to the extent of making things work within the game, a graphic designer for logos/menus/ , most importantly i'm going to need positivity and faith with anyone who is interested in helping me with this. I am not asking you to dedicate all of your time into this like I will be, because it will take time and hard work. Benefits; 1) This is for the people, if anyone who is willing to help me. I am willing to pay actual money for assistance and/or RSGP , which ever is preferred by the individual. 2) Recognition. This specifically applies to the individual(s) that would be helping me. I am a very appreciative person to people who spend there time in helping me, and it will be very rewarding even if it does take time. Not just monetaryily rewarding, but emotionally as well. 3) I am going to start a gofundme to help with this. any contributions that don't go towards software/hardware costs will go to the people who have helped me with this. There's so much more I would like to add to explain my plans further, but i feel as if this post is quite long. Any opinions are greatly appreciated as this has been a big dream of mine as I have stated. I know this may seem like a waste of time, and if that is your opinion it would be greatly appreciated if you could explain why and what I could do to help further my dream. And again, i'm not just asking people to waste there time i'm asking people to help me with something that could very likely grow and grow and grow. Thanks for reading guys, and have a great day! Message me if you have any more questions/advice. Also, i'm most certainly not trying to take people away from the Runescape community.
AC Skiller
Seems interesting... and certainly possible, but it's going to be a long and hard journey for you if you want to go all out, which it seems like you do and I'm sure you've already accounted for this and are prepared for whatever challenges lie ahead. I suppose the game you are trying to make would be sort of a mix between Ultima & ArcheAge correct? with a more in depth crafting and "raids"/dungeons than ArcheAge and possibly a different art style/visual approach, with elements of Ultima thrown into the mix? Seems interesting and I for one would definitely give it a go, I'm already greatly invested into ArcheAge and would definitely like something similar yet unique. I doubt I could be of very much help when it comes to making this happen as of right now but I'd be more than happy to give input and ideas / criticism once it starts to progress Good luck with this man, but the cold hard truth that could happen is that the project simply doesn't work, something too similar gets released before, people give up on the project, you lose a lot of what you invested and so on... But I'm sure you're aware of this but then again, with High Risk Comes High Reward I'll look forward to seeing how this unfolds!

Weirdly enough my inspiration for this comes from a man who attempted to make an Ultima Online type game and had a dedicated staff(mostly volunteer) and actually go donations but he just simply couldn't make it happen and a lot of people criticized him by saying he stole everyones donations, but he just simply didn't earn enough or have enough resources/knowledge to make it happen so it went down the drain. I have been brainstorming / writing down ideas for programming/story line etc on paper now for a while but that's just the easy part. It could happen , it could fail horribly. I think it would be more of a Ultima Online(3d version) mixed with Path of Exile which is a steam game that has a crazy skill tree and that's what the game's based off pretty much. Most games are about getting the best weapons/armor etc but I think a good game, is a game where you put time into the skills of your character and having the variety available to make that happen. But like you said there is already so many games out there that are actually produced by corporations to imitate nostalgic games but I think most of them haven't ever played the game's they're comparing to to themselves. It's definitely going to take some time and dedication and a hell of a lot of $$. I mean I'm definitely not a rich kid but I don't really have to be to start out, if i can prove I'm dedicated and get in with the right people, a simple email could be a life changer. I definitely have a lot of work to do before I can prove anything at the moment. Haven't even scratched the surface. But thanks for the support man, very self encouraging

EX; If I was to make a non player NPC and was to use java, and i had a lot of prefabs/objects in the map already i'd have to go through every individual folder just so i can apply the code to the Object. But in Unity the have a panel that lets you do it right there, so much better & faster Edited July 20, 2016 by Z U L R A H
Z U L R A H
Although I might just use an integrated AI plugin before i can actually get positions/movements down flawlessly then add my own code over time.

But holy fuck PoE... sheet that brings back memories, I legit have 800+ hours in that game on steam xD I remember playing that shit on release, if you're into that game I'm sure you've heard of Kripp, He used to play a lot of WoW / Diablo, he also dabbled in PoE and got really invested, Since Hearthstones release he's streamed it and still does. Follow him to this day. But yeah I love the sound of inspiration from the PoE's approach to skills. But also to minimise gear as a primary system of "power" and make skills more important than just a super rare drop with insane stats. But yeah, Good luck!
